Review: REN Skincare Minis

Hey loves!

REN skincare products have been in the market for quite a while and some of their products have been highly praised by many bloggers and Youtubers. REN claims to be 'Clean skincare' which means that it only use 100% plant and mineral derived actives and is free from skin-unfriendly synthetic ingredients such as sulfate detergents, synthetic colours and parabens.

I have been really wanting to try REN's Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask but have never gotten around to getting it (maybe one day I will!). I do, however, own a few of REN's products in mini sizes, so I thought I'd share my thoughts on them!

REN Vita Mineral Active 7 Eye Gel
A light and cooling gel to treat, revive and brighten the delicate eye area, under or over makeup.

Results:

  • Cools and refreshes.
  • Reduces the appearance of puffiness and dark circles.
  • The eye contour looks smoother, firmer.
How to use:

Apply a small amount to the skin around the eye, gently massage until absorbed. Reapply as necessary.

The Active 7 Eye Gel is a lightweight clear gel which sinks easily into the delicate skin around my eyes. I only use a sunflower seed-sized amount of product each time for both sides of my under-eyes so this product (especially the full size one!) will definitely last a long time. The gel leaves a cool, refreshing feel on my skin and helps make my eyes generally look more fresh and awake. I sometimes like applying this to my eyelids too to help refresh the skin there. I won't go so far as to say that it has reduced the appearance of my dark circles, but it has helped make my under-eyes look less puffy, and has also made the tiny fine lines in that area look more firm and smooth. I do not think this is a must- have but if you use eye gels, I do find that this product works quite well and is quite value for money.

At a dinky 10ml, this face cream was the perfect size to throw into my makeup pouch for my weekend at Belgium. This white cream has a light texture and feels a bit like a mousse. It is pretty much fragrance-free (perfect for those who dislike scented skincare products) but if I were pressed hard to describe or put a scent to it, the best description I can come up with is that it smells slightly medicinal, although not in a bad way. The cream spreads easily on my skin but does take a bit of rubbing to completely sink into the skin. I found it helped soothe the redness in my skin, and left my skin felt 'calmer' after using it. It didn't do much in the moisturising department, though- my skin was only slightly hydrated and it did not get rid or soothe the dry patches on my skin. I had to use a face oil under this cream or mixed with it to give my skin adequate moisture. The lack of SPF in this product which is sold as a day cream is also quite a let down. Overall, I think this cream is a simple, basic moisturiser suitable for sensitive skin and all other skin types, except those with dry skin. Other than that, I sadly did not find anything special about it. Or maybe the beauty is in the fact that it is so simple and fuss-free, depending how you look at it

REN Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk
A gentle cleansing milk that leaves sensitive, delicate and reactive skin purified, calm and soothed. Its multi-action formula eliminates environmental aggressors, increases skin resistance and minimises the signs of chronic irritation and sensitivity that can lead to premature ageing.

Results:

  • Gently removes dirt, pollution and make up.
  • Skin feels purified, calm and soothed.
  • Minimises the feeling of sensitivity.
  • Combats the signs of premature ageing.
How to use:

Gently rub between hands. Massage onto face. Rinse off with warm water.

This fragrance-free cleanser has a milky, creamy feel yet still feels light on the skin. I use a pea-sized amount each time and massage my skin in circular motions. It rinses off well with water, but would probably remove more easily when removed with a face cloth. I find this a very gentle method of cleansing the skin as it does not strip my skin of its natural oils or leave it feeling taut. I only ever rinse this off just with water (no face cloth used) but I find that it does not leave my skin feeling greasy, oily or sticky. It also removes makeup quite well, except waterproof makeup.  This would make a nice addition to a sensitive skin person's skincare routine or anyone looking to have their face cleansed yet feeling soft and supple.

REN Satin Perfection BB Cream
A silicone free BB cream with colour adaptive technology. It adjusts to a wide range of light to medium skin tones and leaves the skin looking flawless, even toned and luminous with a perfect non-oily, satin finish. This true multi-function cream provides flawless coverage that banishes imperfections, gives SPF and anti-oxidant protection while photo-rejuvenation technology offers a toning, firming, anti-ageing effect.

Results:

  • Skin looks satin smooth, matte and flawless.
  • Corrects imperfections.
  • Protects against UV damage.
  • Revitalizes and boosts radiance.
  • Skin looks firmer and more toned.
How to use:

Apply evenly over the face and neck; allow drying with gentle tapping.

I received this sample in a beauty box and brought it along with me on a trip I made recently. When I first squeezed this BB Cream out of the tube, I was a bit hesitant to apply it to my face because it looked quite orange and salmon-pink toned - I have yellow undertones. I gave it go anyway. Yes, it did make my face look pink-toned, but after 45 minutes it slowly adapted to my skin tone and the pink tones were not very noticeable anymore. I like how it made my skin look even toned, and the semi-matte finish gave my skin a natural, healthy look. Coverage is light bordering medium, at best, so a concealer is a must to hide any blemishes. The SPF 15 in it is also helpful, although I always wear sunblock anyway. I find that this does not really conceal or hide dry patches. In fact, it somewhat emphasises them, so dry-skinned beauties may want to skip this unless you don't mind applying a solid layer of moisturiser to counteract that effect. Wear time averages about 5-6 hours with a thin layer of powder on top of it. A downside to this product is that I think the shade of this BB Cream will be too light for darker skin tones, even after it has adapted to the specific skin tone. I've never tried it on my darker-skinned friends, though; so I could be wrong!

All these goodies were nice products to try out, but none of them particularly blew me off my socks. If I had to choose a favourite, I'd go with the Cleansing Milk, mainly because I like how it left my skin feeling soft and plump without any tightness. If you like basic, simple skincare products or have very sensitive skin, this brand carries some products that can cater to your needs. Otherwise, I do not think any of these products are a must-try. It was still fun to try them out though!

Have you tried any of these products? Do you like them? What REN products would you recommend? =D

xx Amanda

  1. The glycolactic mask is nice. There is a vita oil which smells like yakult which is also really nice but I'm combination-oily so haven't mustered the courage to trial it. The clear calm clay cleanser is my holy grail!
