Review: Rimmel Glam'Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara

Hey there dearies!

Just had my Land Law paper today, and as a reward to myself I decided to blog! Hehe! So I also received this product from YUBERACTIVE to review a while back, and am now gonna give my two cents on it! I was actually typing the review for this product halfway, and I don't know why but I did not complete it and only just realised that it is still a draft. HAHA! =D

Product: Rimmel Glam'Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara in 001 Black
Price: RM39.90
Made in: United Kingdom
Content: 9.5ml

This mascara is really unique because it has two different wands and two different formulas all in ONE tube! It contains both a lengthening mascara and volumising mascara.

So first off, here's a pic of the lengthening brush:-

And a close-up of that brush:-

And now here's a pic of the volumising brush...

And a close-up of the volumising brush:-

As you can probably tell, the brushes are different from each other. The lengthening brush has less bristles which are not so densely packed, and are rather spread out. The volumising brush, on the other hand has a thicker brush with bristles that are closer to each other and more densely packed. Oh, and yea, they are actual bristles, and not the rubbery kind of wands. Hee! =D

So now... on to the review! =D

Packaging: The packaging is rather simple, just a black tube with pink and white writing. Doesn't scream for attention, neither is it likely to just sit in the background, 'cause I think the pink does give pretty good contrast against the black. Like I mentioned earlier, the most unique thing would be the fact that the tube contains two mascara's in one. I thought that was just so cool! And convenient. =) The tube is also not very fat, so it's not a problem to hold and control.

Application/Texture/Consistency: Both brushes are not too fat and are just straight in shape, only tapering inwards at the tip of the wand. I find this does not cause problems in application; I did not have problems like poking my eyes with the wand or getting mascara stuck on my lower lashes when applying mascara on the upper lashes. I find that the consistency of the lengthening formula is very thin and not very wet; it applies easily on my lashes and does not cause clumping. The volumising formula is more thick, and it can cause quite a bit of clumping. So you just have to make sure to apply real even layers and let each layer dry slightly before applying the next.

Here's pictures of the mascara's on my eye:-

Lengthening mascara on lashes only

Lengthening + Volumising mascara on lashes

Can you see that there's a slight amount of clumping in the second picture above? So yea, even layers is a must IMO!

And now I'll show you both eyes but one without any mascara on and the other with both the lengthening and volumising mascara applied to it for comparison purposes. =D

Based on looking at the picture, the eye on the right has mascara on it, and the left does not.

There definitely is a difference when I am wearing the mascara and when I am not. It does help lengthen my lashes and volumise it quite a bit, but it does not make my lashes look more full. Just long and volumised. It also does push the lashes upwards and not outwards, so I'm pretty pleased with that. Also, it washes off easily with warm water, and comes off when using makeup remover as it is non-waterproof, so that's pretty convenient. I also did not experience any smudging or transfer of mascara from my upper lashes to my lower lashes, so it does stay put pretty well.

I do find that the lengthening mascara makes the lashes long and slightly volumised while still looking natural- it gives a very clean and fresh look; whereas the volumising mascara helps make the lashes abit more darker and slightly more volumised again. So this mascara does help create differents looks; I could definitely change from clean and fresh, to rather sexy lashes. Hehe! =D

Durability: This mascara is quite long-lasting for a non-waterproof mascara; it lasted for more than 10 hours on my lashes without drooping or smudging and my lashes still looked volumised and lengthened. Pretty good!
Price: At RM39.90 for two mascara's, I'd say it's pretty decent value. Quite reasonable pricing actually. =)

Others: I have sensitive eyes, and this mascara did not irritate it at all- especially when I wear contact lenses. That's a plus point! The results are longer-looking lashes. I don't think this helps create dramatic, full lashes though. It's not as dramatic as I would like it to be. =S

Would I purchase this?- Um, this is hard to decide, but I probably would not. I like that it is very convenient to have to mascara's in one tube, and that they do give different looks. However, I find it a bit of a hassle to use two different mascara's to create a look which I noticed my other mascaras can also help to create, by using different techniques and diffrent amount of layers. But otherwise, I do think this is quite a good mascara to have if you like using two different mascara's, you do not mind the extra work, and you're not the type of person who likes the lashes to look dramatic. Hee! =D

Where can I purchase this?- If I'm not mistaken, this is available at leading pharmacies such as Watson's Personal Care Store, Guardian Pharmacy, and Parkson (Pavilion, 1 Utama, Sunway Pyramid, Sungei Wang, Klang Parade, Gurney Plaza, Terminal One Seremban, Square One Shopping Mall).

Okay, so now I'm gonna go post one more post and then I'm off to study (again...) ! =D

Have you tried this mascara? What do you think of it? =)

NOTE: I did not purchase this mascara. This was given to me for review purposes, but I can assure that my opinions are honest and biased against or towards the sponsor.

xx Amanda

  1. Love the review! But you know that there's only one brush? Christine from Temptalia explains this phenomenon in her MAC Haute & Naughty Lash review: http://www.temptalia.com/mac-haute-naughty-lash-mascara-review-photos. It's still just one tube of mascara, sadly. :)

    1. Glad you liked it! Yea, I realised that it was only one brush after I decided to pull it apart to see how it worked shortly after I wrote this review. But I could never figure out how the brush changed from thin to thick so thank you for sharing Temptalia's post with me! I understand now! Hee! =D
