Review: Incoco Nail Polish Appliqué | First Crush

Hello beauties!

Do you remember your first crush? I certainly do! That heady feeling every time I saw that person; the giddiness, and that rush of excitement and nervousness! Those were the days, hehe! And each time I look at these gorgeous Incoco nail polish appliqués with their 'he loves me, he loves me not' print, I can't help but be transported back to my younger days (golly, I make myself sound old haha!)!

What is Incoco & what does it claim?

Incoco is an American company which is the first manufacturer of 100% real nail polish appliques - taking nail polish out of the bottle and transforming it into self-stick strips. Say goodbye to the drying time, smudges, and streaks of liquid nail polish! Each applique contains a base, colour and top coat for a brilliant, salon-quality manicure. An Incoco manicure lasts up to 14 days, and can be removed easily with nail polish remover. Each set contains 16 strips in varying sizes, which can be gently stretched to fit any nail size perfectly. Incoco offers over 200 varieties of colours and designs, as well as tips and pedicures.

Product: Incoco Nail Polish Applique in First Crush*
Price: USD$ 8.99 (approx. RM28.93/£5.30)
Made in: USA
Content: 16 double-ended strips

Here's the list of ingredients:-

And instructions on how to use it:-

Design: I absolutely adore the design! It reminds me of newspaper nail art but I think this is better! I find the 'he loves me, he loves me not' phrase very cute, and the little red hearts add an extra touch to the whole 'First Crush' theme (which is so aptly named, I think). From afar, this also looks gorgeous on the nails and I can't tell you how many people complimented on this when I had it on my nails- seems like I wasn't the only one adoring the design!

Application/Texture/Consistency: When I first opened the silver packet, I was hit by the strong smell of nail varnish, which I guess makes sense seeing how these strips are supposed to be made of nail polish.  The nail appliques consist of two sets of 8 different sized strips, and each strip has two different ends to help make it more suitable for the shape of the nail cuticle (since everyone cuticles and nail shape may possibly be different)- one side has a more rounded shape, whereas the other side is more straight.

The strips fit my nails pretty well, except for my thumb and my middle finger, but gentle tugging and pulling of the slightly stretchable strips helped solve the issue. The strips feel rather flimsy, but they do not tear easily unless tugged too hard, and are quite malleable.

One thing I really like is that the strips are super glossy and I did not need to apply a top coat to restore its shine at all. I find that application can be a little tricky as I needed to compare strips, measure them against my nail, and sometimes make adjustments by tugging and pulling, so overall the whole process took me about 45 minutes. What's good though is that once that was done, I did not have to worry about smudged nails, or drying time - yay! If you want to see in more detail exactly how I applied it to my nails, check out my Incoco Mint Mojito* applique review here!

The nail strips are quite long, so I actually used one strip for two nails (example, one strip for both thumb nails), so I only used up 5 strips out of 16. Although this helps save money in repurchasing nail appliques, the strips do not last very long once opened, so it's best to use them up within one to two months. In fact, Incoco recommends using the strips immediately after opening, but I'm all budget-y that way hee! Removal of these strips was also so simple- they came off easily with nail polish remover, although some did leave little glue balls, but that's easily removed will remover as well.

Besides having instructions on how to use it listed on the back of the packaging, it is also included in the form of a leaflet inside the pack. Wondering what's that silver strip? It's actually a sticker used to seal the opened packet containing the nail polish appliques so you can keep the leftover strips that you have and prevent air from entering and drying out the nail polish appliqués.

Durability: Unlike the Mint Mojito appliques, I only wore this for about 10 days before it started chipping. I don't know whether this is due to me not applying the strips properly or the strips themselves, but it was a bit disappointing to see that this did not really live up to its claim of lasting up to 14 days. Regardless, I still think that 10 days is pretty decent wear, so in the end of the day, I am not really complaining.

Here's some pictures of how the strips look like on my nails - they're so gorgeous! =D

Would I purchase?- Yes! I particularly like this design, so once I've used this up I'm definitely going to purchase one. The design is simple yet nice, it lasts quite long, and it's saved me the hassle of waiting for my nails to dry- what more can I ask for?!

  1. Ahh these are so cute. ^_^
I love seeing nails with these strips on, it's something different. I got myself a few Sally Hansen ones a while ago, I just couldn't get them to work. I seem to be the only person who struggles with it though. The one I did manage to get on a nail lasted a day :(

I'll just have to admire from afar. That's a shame these didn't live up to the claim of the 14 days though.

  5. They look so gorgeous, I saw a nail art more or less like this, the nail polish color was the same and then they would put a piece of journal in alcohol and then leave on the nail for a couple of seconds and the letters would stay on the polish, it was beautiful.
