What's in my Makeup Bag - Weekend Edition

Hey dearies!

Final exams are finally over, which means that I can breathe a huge sigh of relief and enjoy the summer holiday! It also means that I have completed my degree and am no longer an undergrad student- time sure passes quick! To celebrate, I popped down to Cardiff for the weekend to chill out and spend some time with the boyfriend. Am actually writing this in Cardiff- hee!

I always like looking at 'What's in my Makeup Bag' posts on blogs and have been wanting to write one of my own as well but was waiting to be done with my exams before doing so. Now that that's done, I thought I'd show what I usually tend to bring in my makeup bag for weekend getaways. When I travel, I try to bring as little makeup as possible and ones that are versatile so that I don't have to lug too much around. For your convenience, I also thought I'd include links on where you can purchase them (if available online) and my reviews on them if I reviewed a specific product. =)

P.S This is going to be a long post- I'm in the mood to type! =D

1. Etude House Surprise Essence Concealer #2 Natural Beige- buy here
- I got this as part of a Etude House haul last year back in Malaysia. I think mine is the old packaging and it has recently been repackaged. There were two shades, and I got the darker shade, which unfortunately is a tiny bit too dark for me (I told the sales assistant that the lighter shade suited me but he insisted the darker shade was my shade), but it's not too noticeable so I just pat a little foundation over it to even out the colour. This is easy to bring along and it has a slight watery texture making it slighter easier to blend compared to my Collection Lasting Perfect Concealer, yet it gives pretty good coverage without looking cakey. It has a nice floral scent which fades away upon application. I'll probably purchase this in the new packaging once mine runs out- in the correct shade this time.

2. Mentholatum Lip Ice Sheer Colour- those in UK can buy here/ Msia - at Guardian & Watson's
- Lip Ice and I have an ongoing love affair of 10 years or so and I don't think we are breaking up anytime soon. This was one of the first brands of lip products I used when I first started wearing lip balm and lip gloss- they are affordable, good quality and just good products overall. This one in particular is a lip balm which changes colour upon application. On my lips, it gives a sheer wash of pink which just perks up and brighten my complexion, while providing it much needed moisture. I use this even when I attend classes and it's great layered underneath a lipstick or worn on its own. If you're looking for a good tinted/colour-changing lipbalm, I highly recommend this.

3. Maybelline Clear Smooth Shine BB Stick in #2 Natural- buy here
- I got this in Thailand some time last year when I saw it at the Maybelline counter 'cause I had never seen BB Cream in a stick, and was curious to give it a go. This is also (still) sold back in Malaysia too if I'm not mistaken (not sure if M'sia still has it). I like bringing this when I travel because it's a solid BB Cream, meaning if I fly I will not have to worry about liquid restrictions. I swipe it in stripes on the places of my face that I want to apply the product and blend it with my fingers. No brushes required (although you could use one if you wanted) as it blends like a dream and does not look cakey at all. It gives a natural finish, doesn't leave my face looking oily or shiny a few hours after using this; it does not oxidise on my skin and also provides SPF. What else can I ask for really? I got this in the second available shade (I think there are 3 shades) because this was the only shade that did not have a grey tinge to it, and as many BB Creams I've tried can make the skin look slightly grey-looking, it was good to find one that did the opposite. I am one happy bunny for purchasing this.

4. Topshop Cream Blush Head Over Heels- UK buy here or in store/ M'sia - Topshop in store
- Head Over Heels is my first dip into the realm of cream blushes, and I must say it has impressed me. This peach/coral blush gives my cheeks a lovely, natural, healthy flush, and is a perfect summer colour. When travelling, I bring this along because it's just oh-so-convenient. I apply this on my cheeks using clean fingers and it blends easily besides staying on my cheeks for a few good hours. It looks matte on the skin yet instantly makes me look more 'alive'. For me, this also doubles up as a lipstick, or lip tint, according to my mood. It adds a peachy tint to the lips with just the right amount of pink in it to not wash me out. Two uses from one product? Count Head Over Heels a travel essential of mine.

5. Australis Nudist Eye Shadow Palette
- A neutral eye shadow girl at heart, I never fail to include brown/beige/taupe eyeshadows in my travel makeup bag (or almost any eye look, for that matter) because they just go with literally any outfit. Safe and practically fool-proof, the Nudist palette has 8 shades which I will happily wear. I can create many (neutral) looks with this which can bring me easily from day to night; and the fact that it's small and light makes it easy to tote around. The colours are quite pigmented and feel rather buttery, and little fallout is produced. There's nothing much to say about this really except that it's a product that has a fixed space in my makeup bag due to its versatility.

6. Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in #214 Firecracker- UK buy here/ M'sia - Guardian
- I normally rotate my lipsticks each trip and tend to bring two different type of shades- one bright, one for daily wear. This trip, I decided to bring two brighter shades. Firecracker is a bright coral orange-red with warm undertones. It's pigmented, glides easily on the lips without much tugging, and does not dry out the lips (although I always layer lipbalm underneath anyway). It's a pretty summer shade which is not too bright, yet not exactly a muted colour. I like coral/red shades, so this colour definitely rocks my boat.

7. Tony Moly Cat Chu Wink Lipstick in #3 Pink Cat- buy here
- See that cat-shaped lipstick tube in the pictures above? Pink Cat is one of my latest additions to my ever-growing lipstick collection. I'm not one for packaging but this was one where I really got sucked in- it's cat-shaped! The adorable packaging is a bonus to the fact that the product itself is pretty good too. This is a moisturising lipstick which leaves a pretty bright pink glossy sheen on the lips. It's not opaque, but can easily be layered on the lips. Despite being a bright pink shade, it's surprisingly wearable that I include it as part of my 'daily lipsticks' routine if I'm looking for something a little brighter than the usual soft pink shade.

8. Seventeen Doll'd Up 3-Way Liquid Eyeliner
- This came limited edition with the Seventeen Doll'd Up Mascara at one time so I snapped it up because I always wanted to try a 3-way liquid eyeliner. This quickly became a firm favourite of mine because I find the firm stiff nib much easier to manouvre and use compared to a felt tip liquid eyeliner (which is my next favourite type of eyeliner to use) especially when I want to do the cat eye flick. This eyeliner is pretty black and dries quickly, which is great for hooded eyes like mine so that I don't get that dreadful black line on my eyelids whenever I blink before it has completely dried. All in all, easy to use and creates many looks easily- a travel makeup bag staple.

9. Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss in #16 Wanted!
- Silver lipglosses are pretty rare; at least, I rarely come across them. This cost less than RM10 (approx. £2) so I gave it a go and boy, am I glad I did. This is not a very sticky gloss, lasts for a few hours and I like how I can apply it lightly and it gives my lips a silver sheen, or pack it on and it gives my lips a metallic, futuristic look. Again, like lipsticks, I tend to switch it up every time I travel and nomally only bring one, so this time I brought this one. I featured this in my May 2012 Favourites post.

10. Silkygirl Precision Brow Liner
- Brows are something I'm not very fussy about- as long as it looks neatly and naturally defined I'm happy. I don't draw in my brows heavily so I rarely purchase brow products and tend to stick to one till it finishes. I received this Precision Brow Liner as part of a PR sample a while back and it does the job for me pretty well. It's black, but because I only draw in my brows with very light strokes, it looks natural and lasts me a long time. I like that it's affordable, does what it's supposed to do, has simple packaging and does not need to be sharpened because it is twistable - again, convenient. May purchase this once mine runs out (which may take a while seeing how I've used it for over 6 months and I'm only halfway through it).

After typing all this I just realised that I forgot to include one product in all my pictures which is also a makeup staple of mine, regardless of whether I'm travelling or not- mascara. I always use mascara as I feel that it really helps open up the eyes and makes my face look less 'plain'. I normally prefer to bring non-waterproof ones on holiday as it's easier to remove and I don't have to bring makeup remover to do the job, but the one I brought along this time is the Maybelline Volum' Express Hyper Curl Hello Kitty Edition which is waterproof. I also tend to switch up my mascaras.

Just thought I'd show you the makeup bag I'm currently using as well. I got it as a Christmas gift from my aunt. It's from Primark, and is a peach silk bag with a black floral lace/netting design. Simple and classy.

So that's pretty much what I tend to bring in my travel makeup bag! This post has been very long and kudos to you if you've read this far! =D
