Review: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick

Hello dearies!

Many of us have heard about the famous Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream which is touted as a wonder beauty buy due to the fact that it's so multipurpose. But what about the lip protectant stick from the same range? I never knew such a thing existed until my aunt gave this to me. I tucked it away for ages, and finally took it out to use. Now that I've used almost 90% of it, I think it's high time I write about it!

Product: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick in SPF 15
Price: £20 (approx. RM110)/ not sure about the price in Malaysia
Content: 3.7grams/0.13 oz.
Made in: USA

Here's the list of ingredients:-

Packaging: This treatment stick (which to me is a lip balm really) comes packaged in a tube like a lipstick which twists up and down to reveal or hide the product. The tube itself is plain white but sturdy plastic. Nothing fancy here really; it serves its purpose. I like that it comes in a tube though because it makes it more hygienic in the sense that I do not have to touch the product with my fingers to apply it to the lips, so a plus point for that!

Scent: This lip balm, to me, has a lemongrass and citrusy scent, mixed with the smell of petrolatum and Vaseline (as there is quite a high content of petrolatum in here). It's not a bad smell by any means, just smells slightly herbal. The scent does not last long once applied on the lips, so those who dislike scented lip products probably will not be irked by this.

Application/Texture/Consistency: This protectant stick has a very waxy feel to it and glides easily on the lips. One layer of this is very light and I need to apply quite a few layers (think at least 4 layers) to feel as if my lips are protected. I did not find that this product helped soothe chapped or cracked lips, or moisturise my lips. All it really did was just leave a waxy film on the lips, which I guess just acts as a barrier from wind and dust, but sadly it did nothing to repair my dry lips. It also leaves a clear glossy sheen on the lips, and would work nicely on top of a lipstick to add a slight glossy sheen. I like using it as a base for lipstick as it helps the lipstick glide easily on the lips. The SPF 15 factor also helps if I am going to be out and about for the day. Overall, I think it's good as a lipstick base, but not as a lipbalm to provide smooth soft lips or repair or heal chapped lips as it does nothing for me in that department (unfortunately).

Would I purchase? - No I will not. I basically like my lipbalms to act not only as a barrier against the harsh elements and sun exposure, but to also moisturise and heal my lips. This did not do anything for me in terms of moisturising or healing my chapped lips, which is a downer for me. But I do like that it has an SPF 15 factor, and it does act as a good lipstick base, so I like it for that purpose, but that for me is not good enough to make me want to purchase it.

Where can I purchase this? - I am not sure where to find this in Malaysia, but in the UK you can find this in John Lewis, Debenhams, Boots, House of Fraser and Arnotts.

Have you tried this product? Do you like it? Have you tried anything from Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour range? =D

  2. Best thing I like to use for lips is cocoa butter it really smooths out your lips and protects them.
