Hello dearies!
I am always particular about blemishes and acne as I have a history with acne, and have always stuck to my trusted The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil. Having run out of the product one day, I decided to try something else to see if it would work and I grabbed this product 'cause it seemed promising and was a much cheaper alternative.
Product: NuTeen Acne Away Gel
Price: RM12.90
Made in: Malaysia
Content: 12ml
Before I get on to the review, here's the list of ingredients:-
This product claims to contract and dry pimples effectively, reduce pimples within a few days, provide anti-bacterial functions and help lighten pimple scars as it is enriched with Thanakha extract. I had no idea what Thanakha was so I researched and found out that Thanakha is a yellowish-white cosmetic paste made from ground bark mainly used by females in Myanmar, and it is believed to help remove acne and promote smooth skin.
Packaging: This pimple gel comes in a simple white plastic tube with a green cap- it looks kinda cheap, but for the price, I was not expecting much. The main importance to me is that the product does what it is meant to do! Hehe! It has a squeezy top with a tiny hole to dispense the product, kinda like a lipgloss without an applicator actually. It's convenient to tote around. The packaging has it's pros and cons. I tend to use products with applicators directly on my skin, and by doing so, when I put the applicator back into the product, bacteria from my face would have contaminated the product. As this does not have an applicator, chances for product contamination are greatly reduced. However, because I have to squeeze out the product, if I use unclean fingers, bacteria can also be transferred on to my pimples. So, the best thing to do would be to use clean fingers or a cotton bud to apply the product.
Application/Texture/Consistency: This is a gel product which has a clear consistency but it looks slightly brown-ish in the tube. It is easy to apply and smooth out on my pimples and does not leave a sticky or greasy feeling. It feels very light on the skin and leaves a cool, tingling effect which I like as I feel it helps soothe pimples. Application, like I mentioned earlier, is best done with clean fingers or a cotton bud to prevent the spreading of bacteria. This acne gel also has a nice scent- I can't pinpoint exactly what it smells like but it smells refreshing and a bit herb-like, which took some getting used to but I'm liking the scent now! =D
Directions & How I Use it: The instructions on the box says 'After cleansing, apply 3-4 times daily to the affected areas'. I apply it after I cleanse my face and apply toner and moisturiser, but I only do it twice daily- morning and night 'cause I feel weird reapplying it in the middle of the day when my face is grimy. Hee! I have sensitive skin and this product did not cause any allergies, itchiness; and neither did it make my pimples or skin worse.
Does it work for me?- I have been using this product for more than two months now and I have to sadly say that it does not work for me. I find it does nothing like what it claims on the packaging except that it does soothe my pimples and blemishes. My pimples or blemishes hardly seem to reduce in size, and my acne scars are not really lightened (or if they are, I have not noticed it at all), they just eventually fade away by themselves.
Price: At RM12.90 for 12ml, it is pretty affordable but because it did not really do anything for me, I would say it is rather steeply priced for a product that only soothes my pimples.
Would I repurchase?- No, I will not. After finishing this tube, I'll be heading back again to The Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil. It's double the price of this product, but at least I know it works for me.
Where can I purchase this?- At Watson's, Guardian and supermarkets like Carrefour, Tesco, Jusco.
Do you know of any good acne gels/creams/products that you would recommend? =D
xx Amanda
Personally, I'd cleanse, tone, moisturize and then pop the pimples on my face. Heals faster and you get more satisfaction too! ^.^

ReplyDeleteHi! I've tried Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil, and have been using that for years, until recently when I stopped because I think my skin has gotten used to it, and there's no effect anymore. I've not tried Aiken Pure Tea Tree Oil. Maybe I will one day. Thanks for the info! =D
DeleteHave a try on Dr.G A-Clear Spot Repairing Serum. Its expensive given that RM110.00 for 15ml. The magic is acne disappear the next day. Severe acne may take awhile though. Since then all i use are this serum and Bio-Essence Snail Serum. I found GOD!
